Nursery: Looking After Our World
Thursday 22nd April was Earth Day. As part of finding out about how we can look after our world, we have been learning about how our fruit waste can be turned into something very useful.
The children worked together to dig out the compost that the worms have made from our fruit waste. There were lots of questions and conversations about the worms that we found and also about some bits of plastic rubbish that had ended up in there too. One of the children said “it’s not good for the garden!”
You can help you child to understand that we can look after our environment by talking to them about recycling and making sure any rubbish goes in the bin.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
After reading the story of the very hungry caterpillar, the children were very interested in the different foods that he ate. We brought lots of different types of fruit into Nursery for the children to look closely at, feel, smell and taste. We then gave them the opportunity to make a fruit kebab with the fruits of their choice.
You can help your child at home by encouraging them to eat a wide range of fruit and vegetables. A fun way to do this is to get them involved in preparing food. Encourage your child to talk about the fruit and vegetables they like best and why.
