Reading Rocks!

Additional reading at home has proven to boost a child’s school performance, as well as increase vocabulary, build strong communicational skills, improve self-esteem, and spark their imagination.

School of Play, 2020

Please make sure that you read with your children at home every day. Any reading counts: your child’s school reading book, a book you have at home or even reading online! Make sure you write a comment in your child’s reading record. Lots of children are earning prizes for reading at home every day!

You can also read books online using Collins Ebooks. Please ask your child’s class teacher for their log in details.

Our reading slogan is…
Stand up for your right to read!

Coats and warmer clothing

Winter is on the way! As the days get colder, please make sure your child comes to school every day with a coat so they are warmer at playtime and lunchtimes. Children in Nursery and Reception should have a spare set of labelled clothes in school as they are out and about in all weathers, every day.

We are able to support families with warmer clothing, please get in touch if you would like to know more.

Anti-Bullying Week

Monday 14th – Friday 18th is Anti-Bullying week. At Woodlands, we have learned lots about bullying including:

  • What bullying is
  • How bullying can affect others
  • What we can all do to spot and stop bullying
  • Who we can reach out to of we are being bullied, or if we think someone else might be being bullied.

Co-op Academy Woodlands anti-bullying code was also shared with children this week. This code is displayed around the academy as a reminder to everyone that we can, and will, beat bullying.

Co-op Academy Woodlands Anti-Bullying Code

Bullying is behaviour that hurts someone else – such as name calling, hitting, pushing, spreading rumours, threatening or undermining someone. It can happen anywhere – at school, at home or online. It’s usually repeated over a long period of time and can hurt a child both physically and emotionally.

IF YOU ARE BEING BULLIED:

  • Make yourself safe
  • Tell someone – a teacher, another adult, a friend, a parent or carer
  • Never keep it a secret
  • If you know someone is being bullied, it is up to you to tell an adult
  • You will get help as soon as you tell someone
  • Do not retaliate – tell an adult
  • If you don’t get help the first time, tell someone until you do get help

REMEMBER:

  • Bullying will continue until it is stopped;
  • Bullying can happen to anyone;
  • Bullying can be by one person or many people;
  • Bullying can happen anywhere.

TOGETHER, WE WILL BEAT BULLYING

You can find lots of useful resources about Anti-Bullying week, and about bullying on the Anti-Bullying Alliance website.

Chill for Children in Need!

On Thursday, children and staff came to school in their comfiest clothes and raised money for the BBC Children in Need charity! We’d like to thank all our families for their donations. Take a look at what we got up to
