Lift The Ban Campaign

This year, our Pupil Parliament members in Year 5 and 6 are working on an important project affecting people up and down the country.

Right now, right here in the UK, people seeking refugee status are banned from working whilst they wait months, and often years, for a decision on their asylum claim. Instead, they are left to live on just £7 per day, struggling to support themselves and their families.
Lift The Ban

Earlier this year, our Pupil Parliament members met with a group of volunteers from Lift The Ban at Co-op Academy Penny Oaks and learnt about the project. They spent time planning how they could spread the word to people in our local community.

On Friday 26th April, the children went out into the local area to spread the word. The children worked together to inform local shops and the Compton Centre Library about the campaign and asked them to sign a petition to be shared with the government.

It was quite scary speaking to people we didn't know, but we worked as a team to let them know about Lift The Ban, convince them why this is important and got people to sign the petition.

The Pupil Parliament plan to head back out into the local community soon to convince others to sign this petition that is important to them. If you want to know more about the campaign, get in touch!
