Coronation Celebrations

King Charles succeeded to the throne on the death of his mother – Queen Elizabeth II – on 8 September 2022. The coronation is the ceremony at which Charles will be crowned king. The traditions of the coronation date back hundreds of years and every coronation has taken place in Westminster Abbey in London since 1066. However, the Palace has emphasised that although the coronation of King Charles will be rooted in long-standing traditions it will also reflect the monarch’s role today and look towards the future.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla were coronated on Saturday 6th May 2023 in London.

On Friday 5th May 2023, everyone at Woodlands came together to celebrate this historic event. We dressed in red, white and blue clothes, made decorations, ate food, played games and even had a go at sitting on the King’s throne!

We’d like to say a massive thank you to our kitchen team, who made a delicious coronation feast for us to enjoy; The Co-op for sending us some fantastic activites and to Miss Kerrigan for making our fantastic throne!

Take a look at what we got up to!
