Careers

The Co-op Academies Trust is committed to ensuring all of our student have access to high-quality Careers Related Learning (CRL) opportunities throughout each stage of their development.

Our CRL programmes will inspire, raise aspirations and give our students and optimistic outlook on life.

At Co-op Academy Woodlands, the vision for the development of CRL is to provide the very best opportunities to enable our pupils to broaden their horizons and raise aspirations. We want our children to see a clear link and purpose between their learning experiences and their future.

If you have any questions about our CRL programme, speak to our Careers Related Learning Leader, Mrs. Hopkins.

What is CRL?

Our CRL skills slogan, created by our children, is believe it, achieve it!

CRL stands for Careers Related Learning. It is now a statutory requirement for all primary schools to now include CRL in their curriculum. It is very different to ‘Careers’ in secondary school where children are given advice and guidance on future careers etc. This is not what we will be providing in primary schools but instead focussing on broadening horizons and raising aspirations, giving children a wide range of experiences of the world including the world of work. It is about opening doors, showing children the vast range of possibilities open to them and helping to keep their options open for as long as possible. And there is a range of attributes, skills, and behaviours that can be encouraged in this early stage of a child’s life that will leave them in the best possible position as they begin their transitions to secondary education and to future life.

Skills Builder

In July 2022, we earned the Bronze Skills Builder Award for our careers related learning curriculum, using Skills Builder.

'Children who are able to master the essential skills can make the most of their time in school, and thrive in their wider lives. Working with the Skills Builder Partnership can support every child to build those skills as a core part of their learning.'

Skills Builder Partnership

Our careers and curriculum leaders work together to ensure the following benchmarks are included and planned for throughout our curriculum:

  1. A stable careers programme
  2. Learning about careers and local markets
  3. Addressing the needs of each pupil
  4. Linking our curriculum to careers
  5. Encounters with employers and employees
  6. Experience of workplaces
  7. Encounters with futher and higher education
