Nursery

We have places available for your child to start Nursery in September, if they are 3 before the 31st August.

To apply call our main office

We provide 15 hours per week of free nursery education, with two schedules to choose from:
Monday, Tuesday 8:40am-3:15pm and Wednesday 8:40am-11:15am
Wednesday 1:00pm–3:15pm and Thursday, Friday 8:40am–3:15pm

You can apply anytime and if we have a space available your child can start the term (September, January, April) after their third birthday!
 


Our Provision

We provide challenging learning experiences, that help develop our children’s independence. Opportunities to practise skills through play are abundant.

Nursery: Autumn – Celebrations!

Literacy

We will be reading and joining in with stories including ‘The Gingerbread Man’ and ‘Dear Santa’. 

We’ll be beginning to learn about the sounds (or phonemes) in words and also talking about words that rhyme.

Reception with be learning festive songs to create our own Nursery performance.

Maths

In Maths we’ll continue to practise our counting, helping the children to understand that the last number we say when counting tells us how many there are.  We will be comparing groups of objects and talking about which group has more and which have fewer. 

We will also be using real money in our role-play shop and using shapes to make our own pictures.

Outdoor Play

We love to play outdoors in Nursery!

Please make sure your child brings a waterproof coat each day. As it gets colder, each child should also bring a hat and gloves.  Please make sure these are named so that we can get these back to you if they get lost.

 

Topic

Celebrations!  – We will be finding out about how people celebrate Bonfire night, Diwali, Birthdays and Christmas.  We will have our own Bonfire in Nursery!

The Gingerbread Man – We’ll be reading the traditional tale, ‘The Gingerbread Man’, and finding out how to make our own gingerbread people. 
 

P.E (Sport)

P.E will be every Thursday. Please dress your child in a PE kit on this day.

We’ll be using the apparatus and movement play resources to help the children develop their balance, coordination and strength.

PSHE

We will be talking about our home lives, how we celebrate with our families and what we like to do when we’re not at Nursery.  You can help your child by sharing picture of some of the things they do at home on Tapestry.

Nursery: Spring – We’re Going on a Bear Hunt!

Literacy

We will be reading and joining in with stories including ‘My Perfect Pet’ and ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’

We will be continuing to hear the first sound in words, notice  words that rhyme and to blend sounds to make a word e.g. ‘c-a-t’ is ‘cat’.

We’ll be including more details in our drawings and practising recognising and writing some of the letters in our own names.

Maths

We will continue learning counting songs and to recognise groups of 1, 2, 3 & 4 objects without counting them.  This is called ‘subitising’. 

We will be learning about triangles and recognising that they have 3 straight sides and 3 points (or vertices).

We will be learning about the concepts – heavy, long, less, all, half and after.  You can help your child by using these words as you talk to your child.

Personal, Social & Emotional Development

We will talk about the feelings of the characters in the stories we read.  We will learn to talk about feeling scared and angry.

We’ll share our news from home and talk about how we celebrate special days with our families.

We’ll learn to share and take turns with the other children and about how what we do and say can effect of the feelings of others.

 

PE

We will continue to build strength using the movement play resources and develop our control of balls, hoops and other small equipment.

Remember to make sure your child wears their jogging bottoms and trainers to Nursery on your PE day.

 

Topics

My Perfect Pet
We will be having a visit from Lion learners so that the children can meet some different kinds of animals and learn how to take care of pet animals.  We’d love to hear about any pets you might have at home – please post your pictures on Dojo.

Birthdays
We will be learning about how people celebrate their birthdays and how we’ve changed since we were babies.

We’re going on a bear Hunt
We will be learning about the story ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’.  We will go on our own ‘bear hunt’ and learn to sing the story.  We will use information books to find out about real bears.

Easter
We will be finding out about the celebration of Easter.  We’ll even go on our own Easter egg hunt!

Trip to Tropical World
We’ll be finding out about creatures such as caterpillars and butterflies. 

Eid-ul-Fitr
We’ll be celebrating the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr which falls in the second week.

The very hungry caterpillar
We will be listening to and retelling this story. We will also be learning about the life cycle of a caterpillar.

Minibeasts
We will learning about and looking for minibeasts in our garden. 

Jack and the beanstalk
We will be listening to and retelling this story. This will be linked to our activity of planting seeds.
