Y6 Cut Music Project
Year 6 Pupils Shine in the CUT Music Project πΆποΈ
Our Year 6 pupils recently took part in an inspiring three-day initiative called the CUT Music project—Creating Understanding Through Music. This innovative program, led by Music Box - Inspiring Voices, aimed to educate young people about the dangers of gang involvement and knife crime through the powerful medium of rap music.
The project brought together an incredible team, including Cherie Gears and Rob Bradley from The Rap School, as well as officers from West Yorkshire Police. Together, they worked with 20 of our enthusiastic Year 6 students to explore these challenging topics creatively.
The children immersed themselves in lyric-writing and performance workshops. With guidance from talented mentors, they developed their own rap, "Clear Hold Build / Violence Reduction," which delivers a strong message about fostering safer communities and resisting the pressures of negative influences.
The highlight of the project was the filming of a professional music video, where the children performed their rap with confidence and pride. This video not only showcased their newfound skills but also their deep understanding of the serious issues explored during the workshops.
It was amazing to express such an important message through music and do this with my friends. We want to share this with our families and let everyone know about our song.
The involvement of West Yorkshire Police added a unique perspective, helping the children better understand the real-world implications of gang and knife crime while reinforcing the importance of making positive choices.
The CUT Music project has been a powerful learning experience for our Year 6 pupils. By combining creativity with education, it has empowered them to use their voices for good and to understand the impact they can have in shaping a safer future.
We are incredibly proud of the children for their hard work and dedication throughout the project. Their music video stands as a testament to the power of education, creativity, and collaboration in tackling important social issues.
