  • Y5 & 6 Spelling Bee

    Published 15/12/23

On Friday 15th December, Year 5 and 6 took part in a Spelling Bee!

Children from each class signed up to take part, and had to come to the front of the hall and spell some moderate words in round 1. Those children who spelt them correctly then moved on to round 2!

In round 2, children had to spell a word from our high challenge list! Some of these words included: camouflage, disastrous, chronological and connoisseur.

In the final surprise round, the remaining spellers were given the task of spelling words that were not on the practice lists; they had to spell the names of cities from around the world!

    6PH visit IntoUniversity 🎓

This week, 6PH have been taking part in their Focus Week with Into University! They've been completing a secret mission to show what they have learnt about Ancient Greece and will graduate today at the University of Leeds!

    Pop Up Christmas Shop 🛒

Every day your child attends school, they will earn money to spend in our Pop-Up Shop! This is something the children have asked for and have promised they are going to try their hardest to be at school every day.

If your child is in school every day until the end of term, they can earn up to £10 to spend at the shop. This will be reduced if they have a day off.

We are mindful that some absences are authorised and therefore the children will not lose out. For example, an illness supported by medical proof of a GP appointment or a visit to a pharmacy, a hospital appointment if we have proof of the day and time of the appointment etc.

Children will have less to spend if they have an unauthorised absence, for example, illness with no proof of medical appointments, days off school with no explanation, holidays in term time, arriving to school late etc.

The children are very excited about spending lots of money in the shop, and they need your support to ensure they can be in school every day!

    Ofsted Report

On the 26th and 27th of September, Co-op Academy Woodlands was inspected by Ofsted.

The inspectors carried out their inspection over the two days, which included deep dives into various subjects, lesson visits, discussions with staff and pupils, meetings with school leaders and scrutiny of work undertaken by children. They met with the headteacher, deputy headteacher, members of the governing body, other external agencies, spoke with parents, and reviewed documentation provided by the school. More of what inspectors looked at can be found within the official report which can be found here.

The inspectors concluded that Co-op Academy Woodlands is GOOD in all areas (Quality of Education, Behaviour and Attitudes, Personal Development, Leadership and Management and Early Years Provision), resulting in an Overall Effectiveness of GOOD for the school.

We are very proud of everyone in Team Woodlands for what they do, every day for our children and families and hope you share this feeling too.

  • School Photos

    Published 08/11/23

    Dear Parents and Carers,

The photographer will be at school on Friday 10th November.

If anyone would like their children to be photographed together, this will take place in the hall from 8.30 - 9.00am. We are only offering this to siblings who attend Co-op Academy Woodlands this year due to the amount of time it takes, as well as trying to restrict numbers on site. All other children that attend our school will have their photographs taken throughout the day.

Please make sure they come to school in uniform on this day.

Parents and carers of nursery children who don’t attend on a Friday are invited to have their children’s photo taken between 9.15 - 9.45 in the school hall.

Not only can you order these photos to have at home and share with your friends and family, we use them on our internal school system to make sure every child can be identified.

If you have any questions, please call the office.

    Yours sincerely,

    Adele Clark
    Headteacher

Attendance Matters: All day, every day! ✨

Coming to school every day allows your child to get the best possible education. We’ll work with you, to help your child attend as much as they can. We’ve got a great attendance team, so please get in touch if you’re having difficulties.

    School Photographer 📸

The School Photographer will be in school on Friday 10th November. Make sure your children are in full school uniform, ready to show off their brightest smiles!

More information will be shared with you after half-term.

Eye Tests and Glasses for Children 👓

Although serious vision problems during childhood are rare, routine eye checks are offered to young children to identify any problems early on. Free NHS sight tests are also available at opticians for children under 16.

The sooner any eye problem is found, the sooner you and your child will be able to get any treatment and support needed. Children may not realise they have a vision problem so, without regular tests, there’s a risk a problem may not be spotted. This may affect their development and education.

If you have any concerns about your child’s vision, please book an appointment with an optician.

Goldwyn Opticians are located on Harehills Lane and larger opticians in the city centre, such as Boots and Vision Express. Where possible, please book appointments outside of school hours.

You can also discuss your concerns with a member of our Pastoral team. Pop in or give us a call.
